Yes I am a retiree running for Governor in November as an Independent for change, and you heard right that I am walking to Austin during Spring Break. I am setting out on my walk to Austin on election day March 3rd to battle the Powerful Multi-Billion Dollar Political Parties who are running a muck, because no one else is doing it for us.
Can David beat Goliath in this 21st Century? Yes! By God's Grace He can.
I have been training for this walk for some time now. I started walking 2.2 miles round trip with Chloe my son's husky from my home in Portland Texas to WC Andrews Elementary School until I could get up to 4-5 mph.
I have heard every kind of discouragement as I have prepared for this task but remain resolute and resolved to fulfill this last mission before me.
As an immigrant of 50 years I came to America as a young man from New Zealand in the Bicentennial Year of 1976. Initially I came to share in the Missionary work of Mother Teresa of Calcutta's Missionaries of Charity among the poorest of the poor in the streets of Los Angeles, ironically aka the City of the Angels. But 50 years later I have made a life here, But I guess God has not finished with me yet, and not quite ready to take me home.
My Doctor who carried out my knee replacement nearly 3 years ago will be pleased I am sure. This upcoming epic walk sure makes him look good! Shout out to Dr Thompson,
My trainer advised me to walk the bridge and then expand to walks down Ocean Drive which has been excellent advice. Shout out to Emma. Combining my usual walk with the 4.8 round trip over the new Harbor bridge took me to a 7 mile walk.
Last weekend, after much long distance Sunday walking, I finally achieved a round trip walk over the new Corpus Christi Harbor Bridge all the way to Texas A & M on the Island, and back again. That was my goal, and now the big adventure begins in 6 days!
I will be stopping off at Whataburgers. McDonalds, and Dairy Queens on my way and staying in modest motels and hotels along the way. You never know, I might get a ride with the wagon train riders from Beeville to San Antonio which would be epic in itself too if our paths cross.
I am walking for my fellow Texans, the Homeless, the Imprisoned, the Disenfranchised, those under the burden of Austin's Crippling Property Tax Code, for Small, Medium sized businesses, and some Large that are crippled under the burden of the aggressive Commercial Property Tax Laws which is a whole other story of debilitating and rampant inflation.
I am walking for Teachers and Public Schools that are denied support, for the Elderly, for the quarter of Texans who are Disabled, the Homesteaders, the Farmers who have lost their voice, and for those besieged by meaningless Party propaganda about Party Turf Wars that have no bearing anymore on our daily lives, and for the challenges we face. I am walking for Texas Public School and Private School Students, and for a future of Hope and Prosperity for all Texans and an end to division and bleeding wounds to Heal and find Solutions to the Real Challenges that Face us.
May this inspirational message from Corpus Christi's Cole Park that I discovered in my walks Inspire and guide us in the Principals. Faith, and Ideals we hold dear.
